A terminally ill woman has had her shoplifting case put back to January for a probation report at Nenagh District Court.

Mary Jackson (52) of 1 O’Donnell House, Lower Gerald Griffin Street, Limerick is charged with the theft of three jackets valued at €517  from Lisa Baker Boutique in Nenagh on April 8, 2023 contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.

Sergeant Regina McCarthy told the court on the day of the incident, the defendant entered the shop, took the three pink jackets and left, making no attempt to pay. The incident was captured on CCTV.

The court heard no property was recovered and a co-accused in the matter had already been before the court.

Sgt McCarthy said the defendant has 210 previous convictions.

Acting for the defendant, solicitor Elizabeth McKeever said her client was in very poor health and asked for the judge to commission a probation report.

Judge Fiona Brennan put the matter back to January 2025.
