We are holding a raffle in aid of Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre with the draw to be held at 12pm on Saturday, August 31.

Our top three prizes are a choice of a trailer of turf or firewood, we also have a hand-crafted walking stick, a hamper of wine and nibbles and someother smaller prizes. Tickets are on sale at the market on Saturday next until noon.

On August 24 we were joined by Aoife Barrett from Print Van Go to provide a letter printing workshop on the theme of food – especially how to grow vegetables and fruits.

Aoife is involved in a project with children and the Community Garden associated with Clonoulty Tidy Towns Group.

Growing your own food and supporting local producers is vital in termsof food security and supporting your local economy.

The Café Chris Tea Coffee Truck is on-site seven days a week with plenty of outdoor seating available.

The contractor working on the Thurles Market Quarter adjacent to the Source Building has had to pause work on the Stone Building due to an issue with bats.

A bat survey was carried out in October 2023, revealing that the Stone Building does have bat potential and bat droppings were found during the study, although species were unidentified.

Since the previous survey was carried out out-of-season, an in-season survey during the warm months was required for the derogation license to identify the type of roost, what species useit, and the number of species using it.

The ecologist (Eco Fact) conducted an emergence/activity survey of the buildings in July 2024.

The survey noted that a small number of Pipistrelles bats and house sparrows use the building.

The derogation license application was submitted to the National Parks & Wildlife Service(NPWS) on August 7.

The turnaround time for licence approval is expected to be three weeks.

Work can only take place in the building with the licence in place which is expected to be issued by September 1.

The contractor is still predicting a 12-month build period forthe project at an estimated cost of €3.4M to modify the building to provide an 83-seat café and to erect a canopy over the carpark area which will see the number of spaces reduced from 49 at present to 33 including 2 disabled parking spaces.
