Tipperary Town native, Mary Clancy, has just published her third book.
Published by Poolbeg and available on Amazon, the book titled The Pretend Daughters follows on from her other books, The Blue Washing Bag and Between Love And Betrayal.
Her latest book is a story about what happens when fear and self-doubt take over, changing the destiny of those affected, Forever.
It is set in Ireland 1946, and centres around Eunice Clarke who has reason to suspect that the baby girl in her arms is not the baby she gave birth to, days before.
Consumed by fear and circumstance, she chooses to conceal her nagging doubt, taking the baby home.
Fourteen years later she receives a phone call confirming what she had feared all along. Someone else knows that her teenage daughter isn’t hers.
But who?
If it was a mistake, how could anyone else have been aware of this?
Mary writes historical fiction - sweeping family sagas, featuring characters who faltered against the norms of society back in the day.
Her characters are flawed but true to life ordinary people who strive to overcome what life has thrown at them. Mary writes about fractured lives and strong resilient characters.
A native of Tipperary Town, Mary grew up in Church Street, surrounded by the very best of neighbours and friends. She recalls memories of roaming the hills and the furries, full of yellow gorse.
Waiting for the lake near the quarry to freeze over to skate across it, up to whatever mischief they could find. Popping the white billy busters against each others ears, going home covered in sticky backs.
Mary attended St Joseph’s Primary School and St. Anne’s Secondary School before finishing her second level education in the Convent of Mercy, Doon.
One of four, her mother was Mary Theresa Skehan and her father was James Clancy from Cullen. Mary lived in Cahir for a number of years, before she moved to Kildare, where she now resides with her husband.
