Templemore graveyard is being used as a dump says Tipperary councillor

People are using the Templemore graveyard as a dumping ground, according to councillor Eddie Moran.
Cllr Moran told this week’s sitting of Thurles-Templemore Municipal District Council that one family told him grease from a chip pan was thrown on their loved one’s grave. He said that he believes the issue is because of the caravans parked at the fire station.
“This is going on a long time now,” said Cllr Moran.
PATRICK’S GRAVEYARD
Cllr Jim Ryan told the council that bird fouling and fallen tree branches are causing ‘great distress’ to families visiting graves in St Patrick’s graveyard in Thurles.
He said fallen branches are causing damage to the graves and bird fouling is discolouring the stones.
He asked what the council’s policy on maintenance was and if relatives could contract out if they wished.
Cllr Seamus Hanafin supported his colleague.
“I think all councillors have had representations on this,” said Cllr Hanafin.
HABITATS
District Engineer Thomas Duffy said they would take a look. However, he said that removing trees removes a habitat.
He understands that people will prioritise their loved one’s grave but the council must take a “broader view.”
On the Templemore graveyard issue, Ruairí Boland from the council's environment section said they will review the situation.
