Tipperary County Council gives green light to €20m primary care centre

Tipperary County Council has granted permission for the proposed €20m medical centre on the former Nenagh Ormond RFC grounds at Tyone.
The primary centre on land across from the entrance to Nenagh Hospital will accommodate Tusla and the hospital's Outpatient Department, with associated GP doctor’s surgery, dental, treatment rooms, offices and meeting rooms.
The HSE is planning for a wide range of services to be provided at this development including nursing, physio, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, social work, dietician, ophthalmology, paediatric network team, audiology, community intervention team (CIT), psychology service, home help, podiatry and dental and orthodontic services.
It is proposed that the primary care centre would also include a chronic disease management team, including community-based specialist service in the areas of cardiology, respiratory and diabetes.
The site would also include additional outpatient capacity for UL Hospitals Group.
These additional clinic facilities would essentially be an expansion of the facilities at Nenagh Hospital and would enable an increase of overall outpatient services from the level and type of services currently being provided locally.
Welcoming the decision, Louise Morgan Walsh, local Labour Party representative and a candidate in the 2019 local elections, said: "The facilities proposed would be ideally located adjacent to existing healthcare facilities in Tyone such as Nenagh Hospital and St Conlon's new community nursing unit. The new facility would complement and work in an integrated fashion with these existing facilities."
The three-storey development, which will sit on 80,000 square feet, is being led by Bluemont Development headed by Borrisokane man Tony D'Arcy.
