Tipperary driver who 'stupidly drove without insurance' jailed for four months and banned

A man who “stupidly drove” while uninsured has been jailed by Judge Elizabeth MacGrath at Nenagh District Court.
Patrick McInerney of 9 Oakfield, Thurles, pleaded to the offence and to having no driver’s licence at Holycross, county Tipperary, on September 28, 2021.
Sgt Regina McCarthy told the court that Mr McInerney had been stopped by gardaí after he had been observed driving erratically.
She said Mr McInerney already had a suspended sentence for driving without insurance.
His solicitor, David Peters, told the court that Mr McInerney had “stupidly decided to drive”.
Judge MacGrath pointed out that the defendant had four previous convictions for no insurance and she would have to consider a custodial sentence.
She jailed Mr McInerney for four months for no insurance and disqualified him from driving for four years.
She took the charge of having no licence into account.
Recognizance was set in Mr McInerney’s own bond of €250.
