Tipperary TD raises concerns over crew numbers available to tackle public lighting outages

Amidst widespread disruption to public lighting in Cashel recently, Tipperary TD Martin Browne, who has been in regular contact with the company contracted to service them, has said that the company needs to increase the amount of crews it has available in Tipperary to deal with ageing infrastructure.

“The sheer number of outages that have been reported to me this week are beyond anything I have witnessed before," the Sinn Féin TD said. “I have neve before made so many repots of lights not working around Cashel as I have in the past few days."

Deputy Browne said that he had been told that the main problem was an ageing infrastructure in older estates within the town.

And, he said, while these networks were being upgraded, the work was slow because of the fact that Enerveo, who are contracted to repair the lights, only had three crew available in Tipperary.

“It must also be pointed out that at this time of the year properly functioning streetlights should be taken for granted.

“While we wait for the work to be completed, I would ask people to keep an eye out for their neighbours and anyone who might be infirm and need assistance.

“I will remain in contact with Enerveo until this matter is rectified to the public’s satisfaction," he said.
