Recently the TY group at St. Joseph’s College embarked on their first trip of the year with their teachers to Lisduff Adventure farm in Laois to take part in the Bogathon.

The Bogathon is an obstacle course built on the Fairbrother farm as a team-building event. The course takes roughly an hour and a half to complete and consists of climbing over, crawling under, sliding through obstacles, and trudging through mud.

The instructors began with a warm-up and a few fun games to get everyone involved. The first obstacle to overcome was to get across the small bog. Most of the students crawled over the mud to prevent getting stuck, while others decided to try to walk in it but quickly realized crawling was a better strategy.

Students had to bound over tyres and boards to reach everyone’s favourite bit, the water slide. Filled with washing up liquid and water, students had lots of fun racing down the tarp to the bottom.

Finally, students then slid down (some headfirst) into the mud, got stuck, and had to get pulled out by two others. Sliding down into the water to clean off, the students enjoyed splashing around and laughing with their friends.

The TY students also had a brilliant trip to the Bio Farm near Moneygall. During this trip, the students had a unique and insightful experience as they were educated about ecology and nature as well as Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection.
