Two Tipperary authors donate books to Lebanese Cultural and Heritage Centre

Two Irish author/historians have forged a literary link between Ireland and Lebanon.
Books of Irish historical interest were written by Thurles authors and donated to a dedicated section of the library in the Cultural and Heritage Centre outside Beirut in Lebanon.
The books presented to the Lebanon include two tomes by this writer, (Tom Ryan), Cherry Blossoms (the story of Thurles in verse and photographs) and Light -hearted Tales from the Watery Mall, a book of short stories detailing life in Thurles for over 50 years.
Historical Walk of Thurles by John Wort, Chairman of the Durlas Eile Ui Fhogartaigh Memorial Committee in Thurles, was also donated to the Centre in Beirut, Lebanon.
A section of St Mary’s Memorial Garden in Thurles, where the Lebanese flag is flown on ceremonial occasions, is dedicated to those who lost their lives serving with the UN in the Lebanon.
John Wort, who has been honoured by the Lebanese, has been to that country on a number of occasions.
He has been responsible for bringing noted dignitaries from all over the world to the International Garden of Remembrance in St Mary’s in Thurles. The only one of its kind in Ireland.
