Works on the Wolfe Tone monument in Thurles welcomed

Officials and councillors welcomed funding to clean up the Wolfe Tone monument in Liberty Square at this month’s Thurles-Templemore Municipal District meeting.
The Municipal District was allocated €9,500 for the clean up under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) in March.
The works will consist of essential repairs and cleaning.
Cllr Jim Ryan asked if funding was allocated for the clean up of the Croke monument, which he said, was as much in need.
Thurles-Templemore Municipal District Engineer Thomas Duffy replied they could not apply for both.
But they do intend to apply again for the next funding call.
“It is a process we have to do bit by bit,” said Mr Duffy.
