Planning permission granted for south Tipperary glamping pods

Planning permission has been granted for glamping pods in a rural location near Goatenbridge and Ardfinnan in south Tipperary, close to St Declan’s Way
Planning permission has recently been granted for a rural camping development at Knockballiniry in Ardfinnan on the eastern side of the Knockmealdowns, of a glamping area with three pods along with a shower room, a drying area next to existing stables, and other necessary parking spaces.
Documents with the planning application include a note from the Council that although the tourist accommodation is in a rural location, this particular development could be permitted due to its proximity to St Declans way, a popular walking trail that traverses the Knockmealdowns via Goatenbridge and Ardfinnan towards Mount Melleray in county Waterford.
The application was supported by Knockmealdown Active, who promote the tourism potential of the Knockmealdowns and manage the 32 kilometre stretch of St Declan’s Way from Newcastle to Ballyporeen. Knockmealdown Active have raised concerns with the lack of suitable accommodation for tourists in the area.
Conditions with the planning include that it be used exclusively for short-term holiday accommodation of a maximum of 14 days, and no additional accommodation or tent pitches are allowed.
The owners or operators of the development are also required to keep a register of the names and addresses of anyone staying, which can be made available to the Council on request.
