Councillors have voted to proceed with a part 8 planning proposal to carry out a housing development in Cahir.

Councillors in Tipperary have passed a Part 8 planning proposal for Tipperary County Council to carry out a housing development at Mountain View Drive, Lissava, and Carrigeen, Cahir.

The development will see 45 new social housing units built in Cahir.

Independent Cllr Máirín McGrath had a query for the council’s plenary meeting held in December, in relation to the proposed development.

She told the meeting that social housing is welcomed as the site itself is in a challenging area.

She asked if planning for a ring road would be added to the development as the main road outside of the estate sees very heavy traffic.

A spokesperson for the council responded saying that an agreement had been made with a neighbouring estate that the two roads will link together.

He told the meeting that the timeline of the development would hopefully be fast as the contract will be awarded at the end of the year or beginning of January.
