2023 Captain Declan Kennedy Address.

Dear fellow members, It is a great honour and I am very proud to serve you all in 2023 as your Captain. I also wish Rody Cawley as our President all the best for 2023. His abundance of knowledge on Golf and the course will be a great benefit to the committee. Delighted to have you at the table Rody.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Les Mason for accepting the Vice-Captaincy and I look forward to working very closely with him in the year ahead.

I want to sincerely thank all the Officers for committing again to 2023.

I’m also delighted to welcome our three new committee members Eamon Connolly, Timmy Touhy and Jerome Ryan. Together we can make this a very memorable and productive year for Templemore Golf Club.

I would also like to wish the Lady Captain for 2023 Mary Gilmartin a very successful year ahead especially in relation to the new “One Club format. Undoubtedly we work together as a team for the benefit of the club.

This is the first year of our autonomy and as a limited company. With this new structure we have many new and greater responsibilities than before. Many new policies and procedures will be introduced that we will have to follow.

Things are moving very quickly in golf with new policies and guidelines from Golf Ireland having to be adhered to. We should not just be doing it just because it is policy, but because we know it is the right thing to do.

From now on this club will be focused on moving towards being governed by both ladies and gents within a joint management committee.

This year both committees will work very closely together to establish an inclusive governance structure that meets the requirements of GUI and all Templemore members.

This club is your club, the members club, and I believe we can take it to new heights now and build on all the great work provided by past members and committees. A club would be nothing without good staff and feet on the ground and we have that now in abundance.

I look forward to working closely with our new Course Committee and all the members who contribute to getting the course to the high standard we are now accustomed too.

Finally, I would like to say that if anyone would like to talk to me about anything pertaining to the golf club, I am always here for you, in confidence, but I can guarantee you one thing, I will give my captaincy for 2023 everything I can on behalf of all members within this golf club

2022 Captains Jim Ryan Appreciation.

At the AGM a pause to reflects on past members especially Joe O’Connor who passed away this year and PJ Leahy who passed away late last year.

Thanks to President Michael Purcell for his support throughout the year. Thanks to Tom McGrath for nominating me for the role of Captain it’s been a great honour for me and my family.

First big event of the year was the captains drive in, in March. A presentation was made to Jack Alexander on he’s retirement, Fr Dominic Meehan gave the Club a blessing for the year. Thanks to the team managers and members who represented the club with honour and destination. Thanks to the course manager Liam Leahy, Dinny Maher, Michael Webster and Tom McGrath for putting the shoulder to the wheel and kept the course in great condition.

Pat Shelly joined as our new course work in September, and we’re delighted to have him on board. Pat has hit the ground running and I wish him the best of luck going forward. Thanks to the volunteers that helped on the course during the year and thanks to Chris Doyle for he’s landscaping work around the clubhouse.

The lease with the OPW was signed in July giving the club its own autonomy. A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes over the last few years to get us to this point. Big thanks to Tony O’Toole for leading this project from start to finish. Tony working as Club PRO keeps everyone updated throughout the year and with the help of Seamus Bourke keeps us well promoted within the local media and club website.

Competition Secretary Sean Lee his team, Les Mason, Declan Russell, and Mick Keely throughout the year. The lads were very busy with the 50/50 lotto, organising and running competitions especially the big events like the Captains prize weekend, Vice Captains prize weekend, President’s prize, and the club classic.

Thanks to Pat O’Connell for volunteering, his time and expertise throughout the year. Pat with the help of Les ran the Juvenile Summer camp, and again it was very successful. Pat works away in the back round helping to run the Seniors, opening, and closing the clubhouse, helping for the big events like the club classic. A lot of simple unseen jobs like replying to emails, meeting, and greeting members at the club house especially new members that have enquires.

The new course signage for the should be installed early next year. Thanks to Donal Hayes and Dinny Maher for their time and effort gone into this project. Thanks, Tom McGrath, for helping to secure vital grants for the club like the tee box signage and course drainage grants. Again, Tom does a lot of unseen work for the club throughout the year in keeping the finances in good order.

In October the Ladies and Men had a joint committee meeting to discuss the new joint management setup, golf Ireland were contacted about facilitating this new process. Thanks to Committee for your help and support throughout the year. Best wishes to 2023 Captain Declan Kennedy, President Rody Cawley and Vice Captain Les Mason and also to the Ladies committee.
