Baker's dozen of block-adjournments results in Kildare court case strike-out

SYSTEM FAILURE
A County Kildare man's court case was struck out by a Naas District Court judge because of 'system failure.'
The strike-out was made by Judge Desmond Zaidan on Thursday, March 14.
The accused faced an allegation of dangerous driving in Kildare, which gardaí claimed took place back in 2018.
Gardaí told the judge that the man's case had previously appeared in the court list on 13 previous occasions.
However, the case had been block-adjourned each time; this means that the case had not been reached in time by the presiding judge on the court dates it previously was scheduled to appear on.
Defending solicitor Tim Kennelly also told the judge that his client has always turned up for the scheduled court dates, and whenever he does, he ends up losing a full day's pay as a result.
Judge Zaidan decided to strike the matter out without prejudice, citing 'system feature' as his reason for doing so.
