Kildare County Council has granted planning permission for nine houses on the grounds of Clongowes Wood College in Clane.

The development will consist of accommodation for a new Jesuit community and Clongowes Wood College staff residential accommodation.

The project comprises a four-bedroom, single-storey, Jesuit community dwelling.

Also approved is a terrace of five three-bedroom (two-storey) staff family houses and a row of three four-bedroom (two-storey) staff family houses.

The units will have private amenity spaces and be arranged around a central communal courtyard amenity space.

Also in the plans is landscaping and the upgrading and re-surfacing of an existing access road.

On-site car parking and public lighting are included.

The works also include the removal of a contractor's compound/carpark and the recreation of an historic tree-lined site boundary as previously permitted under a planning application in 2018.

Clongowes Wood College and grounds are a protected structure under legislation.

The estimated construction value of the project is €2m, according to Construction Information Services.
