The State has formally withdrawn an alleged intimidation offence charge against a Naas District Court defendant.

The decision was read out to Judge Desmond Zaidan by a garda present in the court on Thursday, April 4 last.

Back in February, the court was told that Kalem Carey, with an address listed as 13 Liffey Square, Castlefen in Sallins, allegedly threatened someone over an alleged €2,500 debt at a property in Castlefen on February 7 last.

However, on the latest date, the charge which was laid against the 19-year-old defendant was withdrawn.

Mr Carey still faces an charges relating to Section 3 and Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977.

Section 3 refers to alleged simple possession, while Section 15 refers to alleged drug-dealing (in the case of Mr Carey, it was alleged that he had been dealing suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €530 in County Kildare).

As Mr Carey was previously remanded in custody solely on the alleged intimidation charge, and given that it was withdrawn, Judge Zaidan agreed to grant him bail until the Section 3 and Section 15 case resumes on May 23 for hearing.
