Council clarifies capacity left at this Kildare cemetery

Cllr David Trost (FF) questioned the capacity of Donaghcumper Graveyard, Celbridge
A Fianna Fáil councillor has asked Kildare County Council to provide an update on the current capacity for new graves in Donaghcumper Graveyard, Celbridge, Co Kildare.
Tabling his motion at a meeting of Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District on Friday, June 20 2025, Cllr David Trost further asked the council if there was a plan to provide “an urgent implementation programme' for the provision of a columbarium wall at Donaghcumper Graveyard.
A columbarium wall is a structure, often found within cemeteries or memorial gardens, that contains individual niches to hold urns containing cremated remains.
Kildare County Council, in its response to Cllr Trost, confirmed there is an estimated 3-4 years capacity remaining at Donaghcumper Cemetery.
The council further confirmed that land has been acquired to further extend the cemetery when required.
With regard to provision of a columbarium wall at the Celbridge cemetery, the local authority stated that this is on the works programme for 2025/2026.
