'Delivery will be key' for new Kildare secondary school – TD

Aidan Farrelly TD (SD) and Cllr Paula Mulroe have welcomed news of a new school for St Farnan's Post Primary School in Prosperous
Kildare Social Democrats TD Aidan Farrelly and party colleague, Cllr Paula Mulroe have welcomed the news of a new 1,000 pupil school for St Farnan's Post Primary School in Prosperous.
But the Social Democrats duo have cautioned that delivery will be key for the proposed new school.
Deputy Farrelly and Cllr Mulroe welcomed the news that the 1,000 pupil secondary school, which will have four SEN (Special Education Needs) classrooms, has been approved by the Minister for Education – and they have pressed for clarity on when the project will be delivered and how local demand will be met.
"This is welcome news for St Farnan's and for families across Prosperous and the surrounding catchment,” Deputy Farrelly said.
“Well done to Andrew Purcell, the Board of Management, staff, parents and students, whose persistence got the project to this point.
“In particular we also want to know why the new school will include four SEN classrooms when the other projects mentioned have six, and whether that will meet local demand. I'll keep pressing for clear answers and for the planning and delivery of school places that our growing community needs.”
Councillor Mulroe added: "The focus now has to be on delivery. Local families need to know when construction will start and when the school will open. They also need to know what temporary accommodation will be in place in the meantime, given rising first-year enrolment."
