Tender published for much sought swimming pool for Kildare North

Cllr Bernard Caldwell (FF) questioned progress on the Leixlip swimming pool at a recent MD meeting
A tender has been published seeking a full site and development-type feasibility study for the much anticipated Leixlip swimming pool, Kildare County Council has confirmed.
The local authority has stated that the closing date for the feasibility study is November 2 2026.
Confirmation came following a question tabled by Leixlip Fianna Fáil councillor, Bernard Caldwell at a meeting of Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District, on Friday, October 16 last, which called for an update on the Leixlip project.
The council stated: “Allowing for evaluation, award, and standstill period under procurement legislation, it is intended that services under this process would commence in December and the estimated duration of this phase of the project is 24-26 working weeks.”
However, the council noted that the timeline may be affected by “ongoing industrial action.”
According to the local authority, the feasibility study will assess “the technical, financial, environmental, operational and statutory requirements of the project” and inform “future funding applications and project development decisions.”
The study should, it was added, provide the information necessary to decide how to move to the next stage of the process, including:
- The preferred site development approach.
- The preferred construction methodology.
- The preferred swimming pool solution.
- The preferred sustainability strategy.
- Capital and lifecycle cost implications.
- Planning and statutory requirements.
- Indicative timescales, programme and phasing requirements.
- Risks and mitigation measures.
- Future funding and delivery considerations.
