Co Kildare TD claims that Naas Hospital has high death rate with calls for investigation

Naas General Hospital is coming under scrutiny by a Kildare North TD voicing concerns that its death rate is three times higher than bigger hospitals. Kildare North Social Democrats Deputy Catherine Murphy has expressed concern at the recently published Department of Health report into death rates at hospitals during the period 2013-2015.
Deputy Murphy said:“The Department of Health have said it is not their job to investigate the reasons behind the findings of the report and they have pointed to clinicians being the ones required to explain the reasons behind the figures. Worryingly, as highlighted by Susan Mitchell in the Sunday Business Post, it appears that smaller hospitals, including Naas General in my own constituency, have three times higher death rates than the bigger hospitals. There can be no doubt that this is a cause for serious concern and immediate investigation as to the reasons for this anomaly.”
