The investment is being provided under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme with a particular emphasis on the revitalisation of rural town centres, which is a key objective of the Our Rural Future and Town Centre First Policies.

Under the funding announced, €198,000 has been allocated to Calverstown for the purchase of a serviced site in the centre of Calverstown Village for future development of a community space.

€150,000 has also been allocated for an activation programme to establish a successful weekly market, aligned to recently introduced market byelaws for Kildare Town Square.

Local Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O’Loughlin said, “Supporting a Town Centre First planning approach is key for our rural towns and villages. Its vital that we encourage people and business into the centres of our towns to ensure they remain socially and economically viable.

“I am delighted to see that Government have allocated just under €350,000 to two projects in South Kildare, in Calverstown and Kildare Town. This funding will help support the development of usable community spaces that will hopefully benefit the entire community.”
