Family and friends of the late Sarah Swaine are hosting a fundraising race in her memory, to coincide with her second anniversary next January. In conjunction with Pop-Up Races, a 5k and 10k Family Walk Run is planned, with every participant to receive a medal.

However, Carrie Swayne, Sarah’s aunt, is calling on donations or sponsorship in advance of the event, to pay for the costs of organising the event via Pop Up races.

“We want fundraising from the event to go to CanTeen Ireland, a marvellous organisation that was so supportive of Sarah. They were very good to the family; CanTeen Ire is like the Make a Wish Foundation for children but there’s nothing really much for teenagers, except for CanTeen” added Carrie.

“Sarah was diagnosed with cancer in her early teens, aged 13-14 years and got the all-clear but then about 6 months before she died, she started getting headaches and sadly, the tumours had returned. She had great support from CanTeen Ire and twice, they took her to Alton Towers fun park in the UK, creating special memories for her family”.placeholder image

The late Sarah was only 19 years old when she died, a devastating loss for her family and friends. Carrie is calling on Co Kildare to support a 5k and 10k Family Walk/run to be hosted on January 7, 2018 to coincide with Carrie’s second anniversary.

Carrie is calling on local businesses or clubs, to help with the cost of the medals and expenses estimated at around €1,250, to run the event managed by Pop Up Races. "We hope that all monies raised from the registration fees would go directly to CanTeen Ireland” said Carrie so please, if you’d like to donate, contact Joanne O'Sullivan at Kilcullen Garda Station or myself at 086 074 3259”. “Sarah was a lovely young woman, a truly amazing person; her bravery and courage proves we  can face anything” said Carrie. Cost of entrants for the Walk/Run is €15 pp but there is a family rate of 2 adulst and 2 children for €30 and discounted prices for groups, companies or clubs. Contact Carrie at the number above for further details.
