Kildare cllr calls for incentives to be given to businesses to allow free use of toilets to the public

Cllr Ivan Keatley has called on the Kildare County Council to introduce an incentive scheme to get businesses to allow the public free use of their toilets, which would replace the council's current public toilet contract.

The former Mayor of Kildare put forward the motion to a recent meeting of Kildare County Council.

"That Kildare County Council put in place a scheme similar to the “shop front renovation scheme”, to incentivize businesses in our towns and villages to allow public use of their toilet facilities which could replace our current public toilet contract," read the councillor's motion.

The response of the council suggested that the move would be unlikely however.

"This request would need considerable thought as to the type of incentive that could be proposed as on initial review it would be difficult to award and then police the business community regarding compliance," read the council report.
