The fire station located in The Curragh should remain operational.

That's according to Sinn Féin councillor Noel Connolly.

Cllr Connolly made the comments at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which was held on Wednesday, September 20.

In response to Cllr Connolly’s motion, an engineer with KCC said that there are already two speed detectors and signage present in the area, and that there are no plans to install any additional traffic calming measures at this location.placeholder image

A representative of Kildare County Council told those in attendance that the fire station falls under the remit of the Department of Defence.

Cllr Connolly's motion was put to a vote, which passed, meaning that the MD office will follow through on his proposed motion.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Anne Connolly abstained from the vote.
