KILDARE: Plan to remove parking spaces from town centre is deferred

Places to park are in decline
A call has been made to remove four more parking spaces from Naas.
There has been a gradual decline in the number of spaces available in the town in recent years, partly as a result of the reconfiguration of street and footpath layout - and the creation of cycle lanes.
Green Party councillor Bob Quinn to outline the procedure to be followed to take away four spaces at "the front of St Corban's Boys National School."
This is around the corner from the Supervalu outlet at Fairgreen Street.
Cllr Quinn said this would be in the interests of children travelling to and from school every day.
He said it means that the traffic wardens at the school are “faced with challenges every morning.” He said the school principal is in favour of removing the spaces and he asked that this be done on a temporary basis - until the parking bye laws come up for renewal, which will allow for a permanent removal.
However, the bid failed because it was presented as a question instead of a motion.
Naas Mayor Bill Clear said the issue could be raised at a subsequent meeting as a motion.
