Man arrested in connection to murder of David Boland in Athy

A man has been arrested in connection to the murder of David Boland in Athy in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Gardaí were following a definite line of inquiry into the death of the 34-year-old from Nurney, who was on his way to work when he received fatal stab wounds outside a property on Castle Street in Athy.
Gardaí have now arrested a man in connection with the fatal assault, and he is currently being questioned in Kildare Town Garda Station, according to Superintendent Martin Walker who was speaking on KFM this morning.
The incident is believed to have occurred after a Halloween houseparty spilled onto the street at around 5.30am on Thursday morning. Mr Boland was on his way to work, but at some point he crossed paths with one of the revellers who inflicted the fatal injuries on him.
Mr Boland's silver Audi car was taken from the scene and was crashed on the Stradbally Road just a short distance away. An attempt was made to burn out the vehicle and Kildare Fire Services attended the scene.
Gardaí sealed off areas around the premises where the assault occurred and where the vehicle was crashed, allowing for forensic teams to carry out analysis.
Mr Boland, a father of three, was rushed to Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise where he was later pronounced dead.
Gardaí were looking to speak to a group of people who were attending the party and left the scene following the attack at around 5.45am.
