Rider was detected as part of the Bank Holiday Road Safety Campaign

As An Garda Síochána Kildare continued its Bank Holiday Road Safety Campaign last weekend, one particular case was singled out by the force for “special mention.”

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána stated: “Earlier this weekend, a motorcyclist overtook Gardaí on patrol in Monasterevin, while they were travelling within a 60km/h speed zone.

“The rider then accelerated to over 100km/h.

“Monasteverin Gardaí stopped the motorcyclist and discovered that the motorcycle had been untaxed for over 500 days.”

The hapless rider was issued with:

  • A Fixed Charge Notice for driving without due care and attention;

  • A Fixed Charge Notice for no motor tax;

  • The motorcycle was seized.

The Garda spokesperson added: “This incident serves as a strong reminder:

Road safety is paramount. Reckless driving puts lives at risk — including your own.

“Let’s work together to keep our roads safe this Bank Holiday weekend and beyond.

Meanwhile, Naas Roads Policing Unit recently conducted a speed enforcement operation at Rathgorragh, Kill, where a vehicle was detected travelling at 99km/h in a 60km/h zone.

The driver was issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN), including a €160 fine

and three penalty points.

A message from An Garda Síochána Kildare stated: “Speed limits are in place to protect all road users. Please slow down and help us keep our roads safe. #NaasGarda #RoadSafety #SpeedKills #ArriveAlive #SlowDown”
