Footage has been released by Luas officials of near misses and collisions between cyclists and their trams to highlight the dangers of coming to close to the moving cross-city transport service.

There have been numerous incidents in the last year that have caused serious disruption to the busy transport network in Dublin, many of which were caused by pedestrians or cyclists carelessly going out on front of the trams while they are moving.

Last year eight people were injured when a tourist bus collided with a Luas tram near Smithfield, while two Luas passengers were hospitalised in May when a truck crashed into a tram in Tallaght.

Earlier this month a woman was killed when she walked out on front of a Luas tram near Rialto at around 12.30am on a Saturday morning.

Officials from the Luas service tweeted a video earlier this morning to show the dangers of coming too close to moving trams.
