Ban for motorist caught speeding on M7 in Laois

A driving ban was handed out to a man caught speeding while trying out the cruise control on his new car.

Dara Joseph O’Toole, 24, of 9 Annadale, Old Cork Road, Limerick was detected speeding on the M7 at Ballydavis on October 15 last.

Garda Michael Kenneally said he detected the 191D registered grey VW Golf travelling at 159kph in a 120kph zone.

He stopped the driver who informed him that it was a new car and he was “playing with” the cruise control. Garda Kenneally said the driver had no N Plates on the car and there was a child in the vehicle. He said the driver had no previous convictions.

Judge Andrew Cody disqualified the man from driving for three months and fined him a total of €750.

The motorist wasn’t in court during the proceedings.
