Four time world champion dancer Sean Burbage to be recognised for achievements

A four times world champion dancer from Laois is to be given a civic reception in his home county this week.

Sean Burbage from Portarlington has won worldwide awards for his dancing skills since he was a child.

A son of Pat and Catherine Burbage, he danced from a young age with Lynam School of Irish Dancing and now teaches with the Burbage Irish Dance Academy.

A primary school teacher, he now dances professionally with the Rhythm of the Dance world touring show.

He has won numerous Leinster and All Ireland titles, as well as four World Championships.

Laois County Council has approved the Civic Reception in his honour, which was originally proposed at their monthly Municipal District meeting last December.

The civic reception will take place in County Hall this Thursday.

Students of Mr Burbage's dance academy recently competed in An Chomhdháil Irish Dancing World Championships, earning some of the highest rankings in the competition.
