End of era for GameStop Portlaoise

Former gamers haven set to become an education and training centre
It looks like the end of an era for gamers in Portlaoise as the old GameStop looks set to be transformed into an education and training centre.
Laois Offaly Education and Training Board(LOETB) has applied for planning permission to transform the ground floor store in the centre of Portlaoise.
The planning application was lodged with Laois County Council just before Christmas for the former Lyster Square GameStop shop.
It seeks a “change of use of an existing ground floor shop unit to a further education and training centre with office accommodation linking the existing neighbouring unit to include proposed external signage on the existing elevation facing Lyster Square.”
The Lyster Square premises which once housed GameStop was home to Richie’s clothes shop before that.
Laois County Council is expected to make a decision on the plans towards the end of February.
