Gardaí issue new traffic advice for Electric Picnic amid congestion in Stradbally

Gardaí have urged people who don’t need to be in Stradbally to avoid the area
Laois Offaly Gardaí have changed their traffic advice and are now urging motorists to disregard Google Maps once they reach Garda controlled areas near the Electric Picnic.
Google Maps and Electric Picnic organisers have been working on a new initiative to help ease traffic in and around the festival but Gardaí today changed their advice and said motorists should follow only Garda directions once they are close to Stradbally.
Gardaí said anyone who has no reason to be in Stradbally or to travel through Stradbally should avoid the area.
“Traffic is heavy but moving. We have a traffic management plan in place,” a senior Garda said.
“As a result of tweaks to the traffic plan we are at variance with Google Maps. We would say to people to obey Garda signals,” the Garda said.
His advice to people was, “as they get closer to Stradbally to please disregard Google Maps.”
He urged people that “once you are close to Garda controlled junctions to comply with Garda directions which at times conflict with Google Maps but you will get to your destination. We do appreciate the patron’s co-operation to date.”
Gardaí said it was a fluid situation and traffic was moving albeit slowly.
