Green light for 30 houses to complete Laois estate stalled by 2008 'construction crash'

The developer said the houses are on the ‘final parcel’ of land at the estate
A construction company has been given the go-ahead to build 30 houses and complete an estate that remained unfinished since the 2008 ‘construction crash’.
De Bhal Construction Ltd has been granted conditional planning permission to construct 30 houses at the Rahin Towers estate in Ballylinan.
Documents enclosed with the planning application state that “the scheme completes the final undeveloped parcel within the existing Rahin Towers estate and represents a significant upgrade to the public realm, including the removal of redundant hammerheads and the comprehensive re-landscaping of open spaces to create a high-quality, integrated neighbourhood.”
“The site has lain vacant since the 2008 construction crash and this proposal now delivers a balanced mix of unit types in line with current planning policy and the “Residential 1 – Established” zoning objective under the Laois County Development Plan.”
The 30 residential units consist of 12 two-storey four bedroom semi-detached houses (House Type A), six two-storey three bedroom semi-detached houses, six two storey two bedroom houses, two two-storey three-bedroom semi-detached houses and four one-bedroom duplex units.
The plans, which attracted 10 submissions and resulted in two requests for further information, were approved by Laois County Council subject to 19 conditions on August 25.
