A woman appeared in Portlaoise District Court charged with possessing heroin valued at €4,000.

Aideen Strong, 29, of 36 Oakleaf Place, Portlaoise is accused of having heroin for sale or supply at her address on October 13 last. She is further charged with obstruction and possession of methadone arising from the same incident.

Sgt JJ Kirby said the defendant is alleged to have had a large amount of heroin valued at €4,000 and €3,500 in cash at the address on October 13.

Solicitor  Josephine Fitzpatrick applied for legal aid and Sgt Kirby objected on the basis that the defendant was alleged to have had €3,500 in cash.  However, Ms Fitzpatrick pointed out that the gardai had seized the money.

Judge Andrew Cody granted legal aid and adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on May 25, 2023.
