Laois bin company lodges planning application that could create new jobs

The Durrow based waste and recycling bin company currently employs over 30 people
A Durrow based waste and recycling bin company has lodged plans with Laois County Council that could lead to new jobs being created locally.
MES Ireland Ltd has submitted a planning application to construct a warehouse including a loading bay for the storage of refuse bins and parts for refuse bins at a site at Coolnabehy. The company is also seeking retention permission for the change of use of existing agricultural sheds to commercial storage of refuse bins and parts for refuse bins, and a staff area, and retention permission is sought for the change of use of the existing adjacent yard area for access and service of the storage structures.
The locally founded firm has been in business in Laois since 1995 and now employs over 30 people.
"The site and surrounding lands subject of this application were acquired by the applicant in recent years," said the planning document.
"The existing agricultural sheds and yard were conducive to the storage of the bins and parts thereof, that the business deals in. Therefore the applicants are seeking a retention permission of the change of use of these two sheds from agricultural use to commercial storage, incorporating a staff area. They are also seeking retention permission for the change of use of the existing agricultural yard to a yard in service of the storage structures. The staff area in Building ‘A’ comprises toilet, a tea making facility and dining space for the staff.
"They are also seeking planning permission for a new storage structure including a loading bay. This will allow them to store more of their products here in an accessible location and potentially create more jobs in the area."
