Laois man was drink driving when he crashed

The man appeared before Portlaoise District Court
A man who crashed a car in Rathdowney admitted drink driving on the day.
Patrick Hanrahan, 50, of 31 The Showgrounds, Rathdowney was breathalysed following a two car crash on Main Street, Rathdowney on September 22 last year.
A sitting of Portlaoise District Court was told the defendant gave a reading of 72 mgs per 100mls of breath.
Solicitor Philip Meagher explained that his client had brought a letter from a treatment centre where he had completed a 12 week programme. He also wrote a letter to the court.
“He was involved in a pub business in Rathdowney and unfortunately that business failed,” said Mr Meagher.
“This particular incident is the lowest point in that journey,” said Mr Meagher.
He said it had been a “difficult journey” for the defendant who had since sold his car and now just wanted to put it behind him.
Judge Cody fined the man €100 and disqualified him from driving for three years.
