Laois roadworks delay traffic on N80 road to Portlaoise

Roadworks are adding to icy road conditions on the N80 road in Laois this week.
Laois County Council is repairing the N80 road at Kyletalesha, between Portlaoise and Mountmellick.
There are Stop-Go Boards in operation, with traffic reduced to using one lane both ways.
The works are between Kyletalesha Cross Roads and Derrycloney Cross Roads.
They will be in place from 8am on Monday, January 16, until up to 6pm on Tuesday, January 17.
The reason given is "patch work repair".
The stretch of road between the towns across a bog has seen several crashes in the past year.
Described by Laois County Council CEO John Mulholland as "deficient in every way", it is earmarked for a €2.3 million repair job.
Meanwhile the Road Safety Authority has issued a safety alert for arctic weather this week.
"Road safety alert for ice, hailstones, freezing fog and snow across Ireland this week.
"We advise all road users to prepare for hazardous conditions on roads and footpaths. Slow down and drive a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you," the RSA say.
