Man in court over ‘alleged mass brawl’ at Port soccer match

A man appeared in court in connection with an alleged ‘mass brawl’ at a soccer pitch in Laois. 

David Macmahon, 46, of 25 Woodlands Park, Coill Dubh, Naas, Co Kildare is accused of assault causing harm at Arlington AFC, Lea Road, Portarlington on April 23 last. 

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby requested some time in relation to the matter as “there is up to 50 statements” and the prosecution is waiting for medical reports. 

“A mass brawl allegedly?” said Judge Andrew Cody. 

Sgt Kirby said the allegations relate to an incident at a soccer pitch. 

Judge Cody adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on February 12 for DPP directions.
