An electrician who admitted having drugs for sale or supply in Portlaoise may avoid a conviction.
Darren Gorman, 30, of 3 Cois na Habhann, Portlaoise admitted having €20 cannabis and €800 of cocaine at his address on November 12, 2020.
Sgt JJ Kirby said the defendant has five previous convictions but none for drugs. He said the man made admissions to gardai when the drugs were discovered.
The court was told the defendant was a qualified electrician who was supporting his family.
Judge Andrew Cody imposed a deferred sentence of two months in prison. He said if the defendant undergoes random urine testing and remains of sober habits and good behaviour, he would mark no conviction at the next date.
