New creative festival to take place on Laois bog

A brand new creative festival is taking place at Abbeyleix bog celebrating art and nature. The inaugural Of.Hands Festival will take place over two weekends in July.

“I am excited to bring together artists and nature enthusiasts for this one-of-a-kind hands on festival," said Alison McEvoy, Festival Curator.

"Abbeyleix Bog provides a perfect canvas for creativity, and we look forward to seeing the amazing works that will be produced during these events. Abbeyleix Bog features regularly in my own work as do many artists locally so we hope to share this gem with as many people as possible."

On July 6 and 7, artists of all levels are invited to take part in the Plein Air creating event. Participants will have the opportunity to capture the beauty of Abbeyleix Bog's landscapes and wildlife in their artwork. This event encourages artists to immerse themselves in the natural environment, drawing inspiration directly from the stunning scenery.

The following weekend, July 13th and 14th, will feature a series of creative workshops led by renowned artists and craftspeople. Some of the events include: ‘Create Your Own Wire Sculpture Tree with Glenn Gibson’; ‘Pen Drawing Workshop Based on the Bog’ with Alison McEvoy, Festival Curator; ‘Botanical Drawing with Jacinta Hughes’; ‘Create Your Own Irish Textile Landscape with Jo Howard’; ‘Carve a Spoon with Richard Reid’; ‘Symbolic Collage with Dee Stoppa’; ‘Kids Plant Printing with Annie Holland’ and ‘Yoga on the Boardwalk with Eilish of Blackhill Woods’.

More events will be added so keep an eye on Instagram @of_Hands_Abbeyleix or follow Of.Hands on Eventbrite.

Each workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn new skills and techniques from expert instructors, all while enjoying the serene and inspiring setting of Abbeyleix Bog. Many of these events are outdoors and some begin with a walk before heading inside to Abbeyleix Manor Hotel. So be prepared for any weather.
