Temperatures are set to climb this weekend and the downpours of rain that deluged Ireland in recent days not a feature in the Met Éireann forecast which is forecasting cooler weather to also make an unseasonal comeback.

The forecaster says it will be warm on Friday and Saturday but it will become cooler from Sunday onwards. Temperatures are set to rise to highs of 21 degrees on Saturday but Friday and Saturday nights will be on the cool side dropping to as low as 4 degrees.

As for rain, Met Éireann expects it to be mainly dry apart from some rain on Saturday night and Sunday. This will continue through next week but the cool conditions will remain.

It's a respite from the past week which was wetter than average nationwide especially over the past few days due with heavy showers with thunderstorms. Rain was more than three times the average in some parts leaving the land saturated or waterlogged.

Milder weather with higher temperatures isn't expected until late next week. However, over the coming week, Met Éireann says sunshine amounts are expected to be more typical for the time of year with more frequent sunny spells across the country.
