Star weather forecaster Joanna Donnelly set for Laois
Former Met Éireann RTÉ Star meteorologist Joanna Donnelly to deliver talk in Portarlington
Storms, Sunshine and Surprises is the name of an upcoming talk by one of Ireland’s best-known weather forecasters, Joanna Donnelly.
The public is invited to join the former RTÉ weather presenter and meteorologist in Portarlington Library in November for what is being described as ‘an engaging and illustrated talk’.
The organisers say Ms Donnelly will explore the fascinating story of Irish weather and meteorology.
“Combining science, storytelling and humour, Joanna will take the audience on a journey through Ireland's unique weather patterns and some of the country's most memorable weather events. Drawing on her experience as one of Ireland's best-known meteorologists, she will explain how forecasts are made, share personal anecdotes from her career, and tackle some common weather myths along the way,” says Port Library. Donnelly studied applied mathematics at Dublin City University before joining Met Éireann in 1995 as a meteorological assistant before being promoted to meteorologist. She began broadcasting on RTÉ Radio 1 in 2002 and took up a role in Met Éireann’s TV broadcasting team in December 2015.
She left the national weather forecasting service in 2025.
Ms Donnelly has written two books on the weather. The Great Irish Weather Book, published in 2018 and From Malin Head to Mizen Head, published in 2023.
The weather expert will speak in the Laois Offaly town on Wednesday, November 4 at 6pm. It is free event but booking is required. To book or enquire about the event call 0578643751 or email [email protected].
