Woman appears before Portlaoise District Court

A woman has appeared before Portlaoise District Court, accused of being drunk at Laois County Hall.

Anna Bigos (51) of no fixed abode, Portlaoise was arrested by gardaí on June 19, 2026 for a public order offence at Laois County Hall, JFL Avenue Portlaoise.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick explained that she could not represent the accused on account of the solicitors strike over legal aid.

With the assistance of a Polish translator, Judge Andrew Cody explained to the accused that she is charged with being drunk at Laois County Council on June 19.

“It is a minor offence with no risk of custody, and we will deal with it in the absence of legal representation. Do you plead guilty or not guilty?” Judge Cody asked.

The accused replied that she regretted a lot and it won’t repeat.

Judge Cody remanded the accused to a hearing on July 28 to hear from responding gardaí, and to hear a response from the accused. Judge Cody ordered that a Polish interpreter be made available on the date.
