Works have begun to install a long awaited covered bus shelter at Kilminchy in Portlaoise.

Laois County Council has announced that there will be temporary Stop/Go Boards and road narrowing at Kilminchy Bus Stop on the R445 Dublin Road Portlaoise.

The traffic lights will be in place for a month, starting Monday, September 18, lasting until October 20.

They will start from Laurel Court to Kilminchy Roundabout, from 8am to 6pm daily.

The council say the purpose is for Bus Shelter Enabling Works.

The bus stop is one of several where €70,000 was allocated in late 2021 to Laois County Council by the National Transport Authority, to build the bases for the bus shelters. The projects were delayed by the NTA after they raised the standard of the stops to be fully wheelchair accessible.

Laois County Council said last February that it hoped to have all the enabling works done by the end of June.

Two are to be at Kilminchy, two in Mountrath and one in Ballybrittas.
