Yellow lines wanted to stop Laois village pub goers blocking in residents

Villagers living across from Clough GAA grounds call red card on inconsiderate drivers
Residents in a Laois village are getting blocked into their driveways by visitors to the local pub.
Homeowners living across the road from Clough GAA want a red card pulled by Laois County Council, in the form of new road markings as a deterrent.
Fine Gael Cllr John King tabled a motion to the March meeting of Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District on their behalf.
"That this council upgrade road markings close to the GAA grounds in Clough village - that the road markings be coloured yellow and white and also double yellow lines at the front of houses across from the hurling field to allow residents access the property," it said.
He explained the issue.
"Clough is a great community. A new GAA development is going ahead. They got planning permission for a new community centre. It is a booming area. Mary's Bar changed hands and it's great to see a rural pub doing well.
"There are three or four houses across from the entrance where cars park. They want double yellow lines so they have safety going in and out of their own houses. I don't mind providing the funding.
"Unfortunately they were blocked in to their houses a number of times. I know the bye laws won't extend to a small village, but double yellow lines would make a huge difference," Cllr King said.
In reply, the area engineer James Dowling said staff will meet Cllr King to discuss it further.
