Samhain in the Heartlands continues across Longford and Westmeath until November 8, with a packed programme of Halloween events and experiences.

A unique foodie experience is taking place in Longford next week as part of Samhain in the Heartlands, with a five-course tasting dinner celebrating the county's local produce, ancient heritage and Halloween traditions.

Spirit of Samhain Tasting Dinner takes place on Wednesday, November 4 at Skelly's Bar in Ballymahon from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.

The event will enable diners to enjoy locally reared Irish beef, whiskey and craft beer for a dining experience with a fascinating connection to the region's history and folklore.

The evening will showcase Inis Cloithreann Droimeann Beef, sourced from a local herd farmed on Inchcleraun Island on Lough Ree. Droimeann is an ancient native Irish cattle breed with roots dating back to the time of Queen Medb of Connacht.

Guests will also enjoy whiskey from Lough Ree Distillery in Lanesboro, alongside locally brewed craft beer from Wide Street Brewing Company in Ballymahon, which has developed a unique beer using yeast harvested from Oweynagat cave at Rathcroghan, a site steeped in Irish mythology and associated with Queen Medb.

It has been described as a 'brilliant opportunity to experience the flavours and folklore of the Heartlands in one evening, while celebrating some of Longford's fantastic local food and drink producers'.

The celebrations don't stop there as another event The Last Wake at Doory Hall, is taking place on Friday, November 6 at Doory Hall Demesne, has already sold out, highlighting the fantastic interest in the county's immersive Samhain experiences.

With Samhain in the Heartlands continuing until November 8, there is still plenty to discover across Longford and Westmeath.
