Creative Ireland 2018 Information Open Evening in Longford

The Creative Ireland Programme is now entering its second year.
Last year’s Longford programme was a great success, largely due to the level of community participation from all ages and parts of the county.
There was a striking range of events and activities involving all aspects of the creative and visual arts, and there were also a wide range of historical and heritage events, including talks re-enactments and commemorations.
Speaking to the Leader, Creative Ireland Longford Coordinator, Mary Carleton Reynolds, reflected on the development of the programme so far.
“Last year, we had a wonderful response to Creative Ireland from all over the county with some exciting new projects emerging such as the Still Voices Short Film Festival, the first Padraic Colum literary weekend and a Pushkin Day of the Imagination for primary schools.
“Almost 100 events took place across the county and this year and over the next four years it is hoped to build on the success of the first year,” she said.
“The government has made a commitment to continue funding the programme with a strong focus on culture and creativity as a means of fostering community wellbeing.
“A key aspect of the programme is to encourage people to pursue plans and ideas they have, and to think not just about what’s possible in one year, but over a few years.
“Part of our work in 2018 will be the preparation of a culture and creativity plan which will cover a five-year period to 2022.”
To start this year’s programme, the County Culture team are hosting an open information and consultation evening in Backstage Theatre on Monday, January 29 next at 7pm.
The evening will include information on the 2018 programme and the funding opportunities there are for someone wishing to run an event.
Special guest on the evening is Michael O'Reilly from the Creative Ireland national programme. Everyone is welcome to come along.
