Finally two cars can pass! Roadworks end on busy Longford street
The road widening work, which has been taking place on Great Water Street in Longford town, will conclude today Friday October 23.
Work on widening a section of Great Water Street, situated just off Main Street, is in its final stages and set to conclude today, Friday October 23.
The busy street has been closed to traffic between 6pm and 6am each night since last Monday, as workers “tar and line out” the road following the removal of a section of footpath to create more space for passing traffic.
While the extent of the footpath removal was limited by “planning restraints and private ownership”, the work has made a significant difference, allowing two cars to pass each other without either having to mount the pavement.
Councillor Niall Gannon originally called on the council to carry out the work so that cars could pass each other “without having to mount the kerb or risk clipping a wing mirror.”
