Derelict building was acquired by Longford County Council under Building Acquisition Measure (BAM) on behalf of Edgeworthstown District Development Association

Edgeworthstown District Development Association are delighted to be moving forward with the next stage of the relocation of their charity shop Fabulous Finds to its new home at the former Main Street premises known as Mahons.

The derelict building was acquired by Longford County Council under the Building Acquisition Measure (BAM) on behalf of EDDA in 2023.

The Department of Rural and Community Development has approved €248,286 under the 2023 Town and Village Renewal Scheme for Renovation of a derelict building acquired under BAM for use as a charity shop and social enterprise.

The group now move on to the next phase of the project with the appointment of Craftstudio Architecture, who will oversee the design and renovation of the project.

Fabulous Finds employs two people under the Community Employment Scheme, along with a number of valued volunteers, it has gone from strength to strength since its opening in 2021, providing a sustainable way of re-using unwanted household items, toys and clothes.

The new premises at Mahons will provide a significant opportunity for the expansion of the charity shop, the profits of which all go back into aiding the delivery of important improvement projects for the town.

Hugh Quinn of the EDDA says “We have a tremendous crew of staff and volunteers in Fabulous Finds.

"We look forward to the next phase of this project and the opening of our larger and more modern premises. We gratefully acknowledge the help and support provided by Longford County Council through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme which will allow us to complete this project.”
