Longford councillor in public protest calls over health cuts

HSE bosses and Health Minister Stephen Donnelly have been warned they face a major public backlash unless measures are taken to ensure the long term viability of a local x-ray service.
Fine Gael Cllr Peggy Nolan has warned that unless “immediate” action is taken to upgrade radiology services at St Joseph's accident and emergency department in Longford town, a full public protest would be called for.
It comes after the long serving health advocate personally attended the Dublin Road facility on Monday to undergo an examination on her arm.
Cllr Nolan told of how attempts to scan her own arm had to be revisited on four separate occasions due to sluggish and “outdated” imagery equipment.
“If this is not addressed and redressed with immediate effect, I will be asking the people of Longford to join me on the Dublin Road and then we will see what will happen.”
